Veterans for All Voters
State Leaders
State Leaders are on-the-ground advocates for election innovations in their home states. The situation on the ground is different in each state. For example, some innovations happen in the state legislatures while other changes can happen at the ballot box.
Illinois Testimonials
"Like many veterans, I felt a call to action when I joined the military 15 years ago. However, this past decade has shown me that the current state of partisan politics is driving our country down a treacherous path of division and toxic tribalism. The reason I joined Veterans for All Voters is the current electoral system rewards this destructive rhetoric and the commonsense election reform VAV is pushing for will make politicians focus on their constituents’ desires instead of baseless culture wars. We’ll know we accomplished our mission when politicians actually campaign on policies instead of fear and hate."
Rhett Barker
U.S. Navy Veteran
"Since 2016 I have been very frustrated with the increasing stratification of the political parties to the extremes of both sides. Our representative republic has thrived on moderation and centrist thinking for more than 200 years. Todd Connor asked me to consider joining VAV; I am honored to be affiliated with anything Todd does."
Michael Korman
U.S. Navy Veteran
"After leaving the Army in 2019, I wanted to continue serving my fellow countrymen. In 2020, I ran for the state legislature in IL and while I did not win my race, I do still see it as an incredible learning experience. With that said, I am still looking to serve and better both my community and country in any way I can."
George Kemper
U.S. Army Veteran
"I believe that Veterans for All Voters reform priorities are the most effective tools for making an impact in the movement for nonpartisan reforms. As someone who works at the intersection of bridging divides, nonpartisan reform, and trusted information, I am compelled by the capacity of these reforms to increase positive and collaborative campaigning and governance. As the spouse of a disabled combat veteran, I am compelled by the capacity of this organization to both support veterans who are not represented and to bring veteran voices to the conversation."
Kristina Becvar
Military Spouse
"VAV aligns with my deep commitment to fostering a healthier, more representative democracy. I believe polarization is destroying our country. From my military experience, to international research and Public Policy graduate studies at the University of Chicago, I believe I could bring my personal perspective to be a small part in a massive movement that fosters nuance and unity across the political spectrum."
Connor Christensen
U.S. Navy Veteran
"The combination of impact, networking, and purpose makes the prospect of volunteering with VAV exciting. I want to learn from other veterans and individuals with different backgrounds and perspectives while collectively finding constructive ways to mend our political systems and move our communities and the country forward."
Derek Hellauer
U.S. Air Force Veteran
"Democracy and service are two of what I view as the cornerstones of our country. There is ample evidence that nonpartisan electoral reform can go a long way toward improving the strength of our country. The opportunity to work with other Vets in pursuit of a healthier America is a motivating goal for me!"
Jason Shain
U.S. Air Force Veteran
"I believe in Rank Choice voting and other changes that could be made to make the voting process more constructive for citizens. We live in a world full of consultants, economics and statisticians who have learned how to optimize outcomes, and our systems have not caught up to these trends effectively and it shows in the changes to our society."
