State Leaders are on-the-ground advocates for election innovations in their home states. The situation on the ground is different in each state. For example, some innovations happen in the state legislatures while other changes can happen at the ballot box.

"As a leader in the VFW, I think RCV is a good way to engage younger veterans, who have lost faith in the democracy they fought to defend."
John Keene
U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
"Politics in our country has reached a dangerously level of toxicity, and we need new ideas on how to make elections better represent the will of the People, not the partisans of each party. I believe open primaries and RCV are ideas whose time has come and I feel helping get these changes enacted are a mission I can get purpose and meaning from. There are other organizations like Unite America organizing for this, but if I can stand with fellow Veterans, that's where I want to be."
Keith Kay
U.S. Army Veteran
"I have been an activist for Ranked Choice Voting after helping form and incorporate RCV for Colorado in 2017. I am convinced that the plurality election system we have now is causing systemic polarization in party politics. It is also allowing candidates to win without a broad consensus or majority. I joined the military to defend democracy, and as a retired veteran, I continue to do so through promoting election reform."
Thomas Alley
U.S. Air Force Veteran
"I consider myself a strongly patriotic citizen with political opinions that largely run down the center of the spectrum. In my earlier years, I loved a good debate on the issues and can often see the merits of a counter argument. Over the last 24 years, I believe our political system and by connection our government has become badly broken to a point where non-serious, unqualified clowns who are ill eqiupped and unmotivated to actually solve our country's problems have become the increasing norm for our elected officials. Politics is often about compromise. I believe the work that VFAV is doing is a critical step towards changing the political/election process that is failing us so badly and that currently rewards extremism and conflict over compromise."
